Days Eight and Nine - Alston and on to Newcastle - 15th - 16th November

Day Eight - Southport to Alston Moor - 15th November.

This was the best days driving so far for me. Driving through the moors was so nice in a barren sort of way. Then on to Cumbria, all the while getting colder and somewhat wetter. As we drove up the hill towards Alston the mist got thicker and the trees more bare.

Stayed in the village close by to Alix’s house. So nice meeting Alix and getting to know her a little. Her dog #hashtag, when practicing her separation anxiety, has the unique ability to launch herself vertically from floor to door handle height seemingly without flexing her legs - almost as if she had some help from Pixar.

We had a really nice meal in the village and got to realize how hard life is for lots of people in these small villages. It was great meeting Alix, we had some really good chats with some things in common.

Cooked breakfast of fresh eggs from Alix’s chooks then on the road again.

Day 9 - Alston to Newcastle upon Tyne - 16th November

I got to see my first castle! Which was pretty cool - well from the outside anyway.
Drive was okay and found our way to Eric and Jill's place. In spite of some last minute nerves Ali and Eric hit it off pretty well from the get go. This was a pretty cool thing to be a part of as they basically had a lifetime to catch up on.

Lovely house, warm, comfy bed and a bath - bath mmm !
